There are approximately 3,000 patients in San Francisco who have applied for and received a State-issued ID card, but the estimated number of qualified patients exceeds 10,000. This indicates that 2/3rds of the city's medical cannabis patients will soon be turned away at the doors of their current collectives if the mandatory ID card provision stays in place. Dear Supervisor Mirkarimi,

I am writing to urge you not to support Supervisor Michaela Alioto-Pier's proposed legislation amending the MCD permitting process, unless it includes the following changes:

1) Protect patient access by allowing MCS's to provide care to patients with verified doctor's recommendations OR state ID cards, in line with Prop. 215;

2) Get the Mayor's office out of the permit process by moving the disability access waiver process to the Department of Building Inspection (DBI) where it belongs.

You have provided great leadership on this issue at the Board of Supervisors in the past and now more than ever we need to urge the Board to act to protect patient access! These two changes will help insure that the new legislation will help, not hinder, patient access to medicine.
