South San Francisco Planning Commission's MMJ Ordinance
| By Americans For Safe Access | Published March 16, 2010 |
Your help is again needed in South San Francisco. On Thursday, the San Francisco Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing in order to re-draft its Medical Cannabis Dispensary Zoning Ordinance. Last month, many of you were present at the Planning Commission meeting and your presence went a long way in making it clear to the commission that this issue is an important one. I hope that you will join me again.
With a population of over 62,000 it is extraordinarily important that we use our voices and numbers to let the City of South San Francisco know that to ensure patient’s needs are met they must adopt an ordinance that allows for a minimum of one dispensary per 20,000 people, or a total of at least 3 dispensaries. Further, if there is to be a limit on the number of dispensaries, it goes without saying that to cap the membership, to deny access for so many patients to safe medicine, is an injustice!
It will take the unwavering support of every one of us to garner the attention of the City of South San Francisco in understanding that this issue is of vital importance to the constituents of the city as well as the people in the outlying communities. Let’s help the City of South San Francisco draft a model ordinance that will have a positive impact on the city, the community, and proponents of medical cannabis policy!
Please let your voices be heard! Let the City know that: The city should allow at least 3 dispensaries for South San Francisco in a competitive process that allows the best applicants to step forward. The city should not force dispensaries to adhere to a patient cap as it cripples their ability to offer expanded community services. Allowing only one dispensary means that many patients will either be forced to cultivate their own medicine or purchase it from the black market. Strong regulations for where and how medical cannabis dispensaries may be located is a much better system then forcing the underground, unregulated system to continue. Patient limits go against the spirit of proposition 215 and perhaps even go against the state law. Thank the city for their consideration.

South San Francisco Planning Commission's MMJ Ordinance

On Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 7:30pm, the San Francisco Planning Commission will be meeting in order to re-draft its Medical Cannabis Dispensary Ordinance. The agenda item for the Planning Commission is to allow only ONE dispensary, and limit that single dispensary to a mere 150 members for the entire city of South San Francisco!
This important meeting is one that will potentially affect each one of us.
